Sustainable microbial oils for a greener future

COLIPI, Hamburg, Germany

OVERVIEW
COLIPI is a Hamburg-based start-up that produces vegetable and plant oil alternatives through microbial fermentation. The unique process enables sustainable production with fewer CO2 emissions and land use.

State of the art
Currently, most oils and fats, such as palm oil and cocoa butter, are sourced from agricultural production, which harms the environment and fires global warming. Globally, several microbial oil companies are trying to tackle this issue by producing oils by fermentation. However, depending on the specific process and feedstocks, this approach does not always offer a veritable improvement over the current agricultural production.
